2026-07-05 — the good-day investigation
Not a low-state day. Started as a routine weekly-review session — became the first observed instance of the falsifier condition that no-motivation-state was waiting for.
The sequence
- Denys voluntarily opened the meaning-question: “I lack a real goal, I’m reactive, I need something that would actually motivate me — not eat-your-breakfast level.”
- Presented with three off-the-shelf goal candidates, all pre-existing in the wiki: (a) ship first investigation → establish-as-sme, (b) 6-month north-star for the SME work, (c) define a 90-day nature-business probe.
- None pulled. Not “the wrong three” — none.
- Asked “when did you last feel genuinely pulled forward by something?” Answer: “I don’t remember, really.”
What that means
Two independently significant findings from one conversation:

The pull-sense category is currently offline. It’s not that the standard options are the wrong options — it’s that the felt-sense of being-pulled isn’t recallable. Either it’s been absent long enough not to be retrievable, or it’s been happening under a different name (obligation, curiosity, task). Either way, manufacturing a “motivating goal” externally cannot pull if the pull-machinery itself isn’t running. This subordinates every planning move: without pull, nothing else makes sense. This is the good-day test the synthesis was waiting for. no-motivation-state specified the falsifier: does the meaning-question ever get opened voluntarily on a good day, when no bad state is forcing it? Today it did. And at every juncture where the easy move was to close the question and feel resolved (grab a candidate, manufacture a memory), Denys kept it open. That is the falsifier condition firing — see Non-instances. Moves the regulation-vs-avoidance question one notch toward regulation, one notch away from pure avoidance-loop. Single instance; needs a pattern before it settles.
Loneliness — reopened
Loneliness was named explicitly for the first time on Morning — same state as the two prior days (“very lonely”), but was overshadowed there by the task-lift and never developed. Today Denys flagged that it may be worth actively investigating — while noting he doesn’t yet know how. Filed as an open pattern candidate under psyche-observation; the how is itself part of the question. Not shaped enough yet to be an open tab.
Follow-ups (surface at next review)
- Find pull. Explicitly named by Denys as the primary next-week lens. Any commitment made before pull is diagnosed will be another well-reasoned goal that doesn’t move him.
- Loneliness — active investigation. Method unclear. Named as a live concern rather than a passing mention on 2026-07-03.
- Alternative angles that don’t require producing an absent memory: (a) push-side — what do you resent doing, what would you refuse to still be doing in 5 years; (b) expectation-gap — what did younger-Denys assume adult-Denys would be doing.
